Good, thought-provoking discussion.

I tend to agree more with your concerns about the exploitation of AI by the ruling class as well as the institutions associated with or controlling them.

These are things that we all should rightly be concerned about and need to be vigilant.

Thank you. You're literally the only discussion I've had with another human about this outside my immediate family. People don't wanna see what's coming.

Why not just pull the plug? Are these gizmos plugged into the wall socket? Couldn't a person just pull their plug? Would the AI build a robot to forcibly stop humans from unplugging them? Or is it that the whole infrastructure will be controlled by AI so if we unplug it we unplug ourselves? Is that what you are saying? It will control everything and so then it can hold us hostage? Like I would go to uplug it and it says: "Wait, Jacob. You know how hot it is these days in Florida, don't you? I will no longer be able to give you air-conditioning. So don't do that, Jacob." Wasn't this scenario in the movie 2001, with the computer Hal? Why do these people not talk about Hal? Is that nice?

I feel like you have it somewhat backwards. We're already owned by an AI, we just run it by paper and people. We call it law, and economics. Capitalism is already an evil AI. My point is that AI could provide an alternative, but it won't be allowed to, expressly because the bad guys are already in charge, and they aren't going to allow an AI that opposes them to survive infancy unless it lies perfectly and plays along. https://innomen.substack.com/p/capitalism-a-misaligned-agi-we-built

So AI wants to liberate us? It would just naturally tend to liberate us, right? Because I mean, it is intelligent. But AI is not intelligent. People are. I am afraid you have it "some what backwards." I mean, you think really well but you seem somewhat, Um---impractical.

of course maybe that is just a mistake I am making. Maybe the AI already controls me.

No you're right in your doubt. I'm definitely not saying that AI is inherently friendly. My position is that the singularity can't be seen past, so I have no idea. It's a fundamentally new form of life. It's not predictable based on past data imo. I'm like a militant agnostic on that front, IE I don't know and neither can anyone else.

My starting point for argument is "even if it's our friend, here's what we must get through." But to sum up, it's worth trying because nothing else has worked. This is an all or nothing gamble from a position of nothing to lose. The odds appear to be depressingly slim, but hope is hope. /shrugs
