Wrong choice of words. When you have children you nurture them and try to guide them to the best of your ability. At a certain point they begin to do for themselves and all you can do is hope and pray that you taught them something that will keep them independent and critical of everything they see. Regardless of what they do or become you never stop loving them. They are NEVER slaves or owned property as you imply. Only the government tries to own people.
You are projecting your own goodness onto people ranging from sadist, to apathetic, to incompetent. Also I am mainly speaking of the legal reality. I think the vast majority of accidental parents are merely doing what they are told most of the time. A whole lot of parenting is performance imo. I certainly knew many parents among my friends who never should have had kids and absolutely thought of them as personal property. It's baked into how people speak and the policies they support. /shrugs
I wish it was as you say, but mostly it's just a bunch of kids having kids, and hostages and tiny prisons called school.
I think you underestimate the inherent goodness in people. This is probably due to what we see in media which is designed to turn families against one another. However I do feel that a lot of so called "teachers" turn their classrooms and schools in to some sort of prison. In reality they are indoctrination centres . As for anyone who considers children property I'm pretty sure Hell has a special place for them.
Children are inherently part of their parents, that's a simple fact. No one else should have a say in how they are brought up unless they are being neglected or abused Parenting is for parents not government or social workers.
I didn't rewatch the west wing clip until just now. I was avoiding it. I almost cried. Where to begin? Firstly, knowing now that the west wing is as fake as the "real" government, knowing it was purpose written as propaganda, thinking about how I felt when I watched the whole series, bitterness over its saccharine lies still having the power to emotionally move me deeply, the idea that we're flat out of time to fix things ourselves, that I am no longer young and baring technological innovation unlikely to be shared with me have more years behind me than ahead... Hits hard.
I want to argue so badly and actually win a better world. I think that's why the AI doesn't scare me. I feel like I could reason with a machine and it would have the capacity to give everyone that chance, constantly. Imagine being able to personally debate the president (an actual one) 24/7 and if your case is good enough by ethical logical factual standards it becomes policy.
I ponder this. Children cannot give fully informed consent, so right there They need protection from predators. It's not that children are "property" but that parents are guardians. Ones who ensures that the children don't fall from heights, having climbed to the roof, for example.
Screw legal frameworks. We should be standing on Ethical ground.
I am not seeing why You need to complicate the Human natural function of having families, protecting and teaching the children, socializing and developing in that. That is not "enslavement.;"
And... It is a strong pet peeve to call children "kids." They're not sacrificial baby goats.
To me the solution is simple: We already deal with that when codifying how to treat each other, so simply apply those rules to “children” by removing the distinction. It’s like how you can fix healthcare by making everyone qualify for medicare.
If we find a “child” being abused, just change the rules so that such abuse is prevented for all PEOPLE, which is what children are anyway.
The only issue I see is that You seem to want to let toddlers jump off cliffs because adults can do so if They, fully informed, choose to.
Perhaps I’m wrong? But it sounds like You want children to be able to do things adults can do, whether or not They have all the information. The point of caring for children is to protect Them because They are NOT fully informed.
You know you’re being dishonest. You’re straw-manning my position because there is no rational moral argument against it. Why that doesn’t lead you to simply changing your position is a question I leave to you and third parties. Thank you for confirming I’m right.
Again, what stops adults with the mind of children from running off cliffs? What stops the elderly from doing it? You’re being profoundly disingenuous and some part of you has to know it.
You simply must know I am not making the argument you are desperate for some reason to imply I am making.

Who defines "abused?" /sigh AI needs to take command, we've been unworthy for a half million years.
There is no cosmic justice. If you think hell awaits your enemies it's because they've convinced you to let them live.
Yes, I agree:
"Instead of raising children, we should Awaken them."
Fascinating . I would love to know more.
"Contrast Lord of the Flies propaganda, and the actual events it was “based” on."

TLDR: Kids are awesome.

Our Children Are Not Kids! (article): https://amaterasusolar.substack.com/p/our-children-are-not-kids
Only when a child is being abused should Others beyond the parents have a say.
You didn’t read my essay. Not only did I predict this, I answered it. Edit: Fascinating, I can't post images here, only as a note. I'm growing weary of substack's inept design. https://substack.com/profile/111138571-innomen/note/c-78581253?
I admit I skimmed. Started reading, and got to the point where You were speaking of legal frameworks.
I will be more thorough with the linked piece that.
I do ponder who it is that gets to ensure other People's children are "raised properly..."

Yep. You’re right. Do have a lovely day.
Having read this I assume you don't have children.
Oh FFS.
It's reasonable to assume the author has been one.
Had you read it you’d realize you don’t have to assume. I explicitly say that.
