Computershare Is Spyware (Low effort, Brave browser, trying to buy my first share.)
GME stans are apparently a cult.

Computershare Is Spyware (Low effort, Brave browser, trying to buy my first share.)
Update:
You aren’t even saying any of this is wrong, you’re just saying I suck as a person, or moving the goalposts on what “spyware” means.
Unjoined, holy shit what a cult.: (deleting my screenshots too, wow...)

(This post was generated after an hour of tech support attempts to get past a login loop. Crash to login happens After phone text MFA, EXTREMELY annoying. Are you guys cool with this? Do you have edge on windows or something else organic-probe tier for interacting with the platform? Because I’m using brave on linux.)
Computershare Is Spyware
I turned off my browser’s privacy shields to access my own stock holdings. Here’s what their platform tried to load:
The Tracking Arsenal:
Google Analytics (multiple endpoints)
Evidon consent management (misconfigured)
LaunchDarkly feature flags
Tag control systems
Telemetry scripts
Real-time behavioral monitoring
The Problems:
Their Google Analytics is blocked by their own Content Security Policy - meaning it’s so aggressive it violates their own security rules.
Their consent system fails with “site: undefined” - you literally cannot properly consent or deny tracking.
Their app has routing errors because routes are missing - basic functionality is broken.
Critical features depend on tracking scripts. When I block them, the site breaks. The chat widget returns 500 errors. Core functionality requires surveillance.
Why This Matters:
They already have my:
Legal name
SSN
Address
Email (verified)
Phone number (verified)
For a basic equity lookup, they’re running surveillance-grade analytics that would make a marketing company blush.
This isn’t a bank. This isn’t a brokerage. This is a transfer agent - a utility service for managing share ownership. There is zero legitimate reason for this level of client-side instrumentation.
The Definition:
Spyware: Software that gathers information about a person without their knowledge or consent and sends it to third parties.
Their consent system is broken. Scripts load anyway. Third-party trackers are everywhere. On a financial platform holding sensitive PII.
If it walks like spyware and quacks like spyware...
Screenshot:
Bonus round, my phone isn’t sufficiently invasive for them either. (It’s not even rooted or jail broken, it’s a stock moto stylus.)
Bonus round 2: Firefox

Yea because telling people that a recommended service is aggressively harvesting user data is a bad thing. What could possibly go wrong.

Hi there! I didn’t see your post nor was I the one to remove it but as a Senior Software Engineer, your objections may have merit but ascribing it to malice does not. How does their site compare to other transfer agents? Is it industry standard but bad technical practice? I’m actually curious about what you’ve presented and I think if it’s any different than any other transfer agent, it would be worthwhile to inform Computershare about potential security issues.

Thanks I guess but I have a lot of problems with this reply’s framing. Firstly... compare the CS app to the CS desktop PC page, and then compare both to any other serious money website for the public. My Actual Bank isn’t Near that bad. The freakin’ robin hood app isn’t that bad, and we all know how much they care about users (not one little bit.)
Secondly, that community clearly has a MASSIVE black and white tribal mentality. I should NOT have received the abuse or accusations I did, let alone be banned for it, or left to the crowd to be ripped apart for a good faith information share.
Thirdly, I really don’t care how they compare to other transfer agents because CS is the one being recommenced by that community and GME itself to my understanding.
This is trivial to investigate. Just spin up a VM and try to make a new CS account and keep track of all the shit that goes on, the source of the pages you’re forced to walk through. It’s not like you’re gonna have to inspect packets or whatever.

Hi there! It seems like you have no interest in rational conversation. Is there anything else that we as moderators can help you with in the scope of moderating?

Yea see? Black or white, unquestioning stock hype, or literally irrational. Actuality has nuance. Thank you for proving my point. So you know it’s spyware, you just don’t care because cult. Nothing Wallstreet could have said or done would have made me doubt GME and the general thesis of that sub. But you and you ilk did. Think about that, if you have the intellectual spine for it of course. https://philpapers.org/rec/SERCBI Let’s talk seriously about rationality some time. (I wrote that.)

“I had better try to sound snidely superior. Anything instead of risking an introspective thought which might adversely affect my core sense of self.” ^ Literally the predicted action in the scholarly paper above. Does it bother you that you proved my point to protect proudly chasing bank tokens in service of tech and finance oligarchs? No, of course not, that would require the thoughts you refuse to have. And *I’m* the irrational one. :|

Really solid breakdown of the tracking stack here. The broken consent managment is especially worrying since it means users cant even formally opt out if they wanted to. What gets me is how these platforms justify surveillance-grade instrumentation on what's essentially a utilty service, kinda shows how normalized invasive monitoring has become in fintech infrastructure.
Ya, well, get used to it because it is now the way of the world, THEY have way more compute so they can just do it and the genpop elite of the slaughter pen herd heading through the gates has the same proportion of NPC and Stupids.
Governance (standards and regulation (unaccountable)) is now above LAW itself. Trust me, if not, appeal the injury or method of inflicting it.
Retrocausality (not the physics one) will soon be the basis of a massive Mandellian Epidemic Outbreak (forget - he said, she said) never happened) this is the real story))) being (re)written in real time -> compute and narrative trump your reality.
